What home care costs, and what insurance actually covers
Most agencies won't put a number on a website. Here's ours, along with an honest explanation of what Medicare does and doesn't pay for — which is the part that surprises most families.

What It Costs
$35–$38 an hour
Weekends and holidays, $36–$40 an hour. Where you fall in each range depends on the care your parent needs.
What you'll actually pay depends on the plan of care — how many hours, what kind of help, and what your insurance covers. We give you the full figure at the free visit, before you commit to anything.
| Four-hour visits | Hours | Per week |
|---|---|---|
| Four weekday visits | 16 | $560–$608 |
| Five weekday visits | 20 | $700–$760 |
| Every day, weekends included | 28 | $988–$1,080 |
The first row is our minimum. Weekend visits are at the weekend rate.
Does Medicare Pay for This?
Traditional Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover non-medical home care.
It covers skilled care — nursing, physical therapy — ordered by a doctor, usually for a limited period after a hospital stay. Help with bathing, dressing, meals and companionship is not skilled care, so Medicare does not pay for it.
That is not a technicality and it catches a lot of families out. If a website implies otherwise, read it again carefully.
Many Medicare Advantage plans do cover it.
Advantage plans are allowed to include supplemental benefits that traditional Medicare doesn't, and in-home support is increasingly one of them. Coverage varies enormously between plans.
We check your specific plan and verify the benefit before care begins, not after. If it isn't covered, you'll know that before you've spent anything.
The plans we accept
We accept Aetna, AmeriHealth, Cigna, Humana and Oscar plans, and many Medicare Advantage plans. Whether a plan pays for in-home support depends on the individual policy, and we check yours during the free consultation.
The Other Ways Families Pay for This
- Long-term care insurance. If your parent has a policy, it usually covers this. We can help you work out what it requires — most policies have a waiting period and a daily limit.
- Veterans' benefits. The VA Aid and Attendance benefit can help with home care for eligible veterans and surviving spouses. Our social workers know the process.
- NJ FamilyCare / Medicaid MLTSS. For families who qualify financially, New Jersey's managed long-term services program can cover in-home care.
- Private pay. Most of our families start here, often while an insurance question is still being sorted out.
The social workers on staff hold master's degrees, and finding programs families didn't know they qualified for is a genuine part of the job — not an upsell.
